August 2011 – Lynn MA: All Care VNA is pleased announce that its new Keeping Connected wellness program is being introduced to seniors and the disabled through a series of educational seminars to be held at resident apartment complex. The goal of Keeping Connected is to help individuals at risk for illness or injury stay healthy living at home by enabling them to identify and prevent health concerns from becoming medical emergencies that require hospitalization or emergency room visits.
All Care’s community liaison nurse, Claudia O’Connell, held an on-site wellness seminar for the senior residents of King’s Beach Towers apartments, a division of Crowninshield Management, located at 130 Eastern Avenue in Lynn. “It’s so very important for elders to be proactive with their health”, said O’Connell. “When they take an active role in maintaining their health and safety, they can live independently at home longer.” The seminar emphasized health through awareness and early intervention by educating seniors on how to identify the signs and symptoms of health problems that may include: a recent fall, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, swelling of legs and feet, shortness of breath, persistent cold and flu symptoms, difficulty voiding or frequent urination, increased pain or discomfort, increased weakness, and decreased mobility. The seminar also included what seniors can do if they are experiencing any of these symptoms and how to access home care services.
“The Keeping Connected program was well received by residents at King’s Beach Towers, and future seminars are planned,” said O’Connell. “It was also a pleasure to work with Crowninshield Management, and Resident Service Coordinator, Patty Scarpetti. They have a strong commitment to the health and wellbeing of their residents and I look forward to working with them again.”
